Photographing a Home Office
In this shoot, I worked with the amazing interior designer, Sallie Lord, of GreyHunt Interiors. The homeowner had converted a bedroom to a home office and she wanted to make over her work space. The result is stunning. One wall was partially opened up to let more natural light in from the window in the stairway. The walls were painted a bold teal blue. Shades of pink in the curtains and chaise softened the wall color. The modern campaign style desk and bookshelves on one wall organizes the workspace for the homeowner while the opposite wall has a velvet chaise lounge and bright gold accents, a perfect cozy spot for reading or working. The artwork above the sofa brings together all the colors in the room.
Using lighting to photograph this room ensured I captured the colors correctly for the designer. This is a vital step when working with design professionals. I also work tethered to my iPad so that the designer can see what my camera will capture before I hit the shutter button. We work together to create the right layout of each photograph and then drill down to the placement of accessories, highlighting the design style and sometimes hiding the less than desirable like outlets or wires.
I enjoy the collaboration process — understanding what the designer wants to showcase as well as showing the designer what is possible with photography.
