I recently had the opportunity to photograph a kitchen renovation done by the interior designer, Basma Masood of Basma Interiors, and her husband. They took the space from mediocre to amazing, actually moving the location of the kitchen. This required taking all the walls down in the kitchen, raising the ceiling to its full vaulted potential, enlarging and moving windows, rerouting ductwork for the HVAC system and cutting through the concrete slab for plumbing!

Here you can see a beautiful blend of colors that give the kitchen a bright but warm vibe. Photographed by Christy Kosnic. Designed by Basma Interiors.

Thought not entirely novices (Basma is a professional designer and her husband is a licensed electrician) they tackled the entire reno project themselves. Basma has documented the entire process in her lastest blog post and its stunning to see the before, during and after images.

Their beautiful kitchen is now truly the heart of the home. The actual footprint of the kitchen may not be large but the space is soaring and because of its openness to the living and dining room.

I love the blend of old and new in this dining room. The table is new but the chairs are from the late 1800’s. The server is from the 1960’s. The artwork and light are new.
